The Significance of Our “Film-Covered LED Device” Patent
The patent, Film-Covered LED Device, has been granted in the United States!
Here are a few significant facts of Andromeda LED Lighting's “Film-Covered LED Device” Patent:
Our patented technology produces high efficiency of white light and sidesteps two main categories of LED lighting patents in the LED industry-- White Light LED Phosphor and High Power LED Packaging.
Our technology streamlines the manufacture process, thus reducing production costs and increasing product quality simultaneously. The defect ratio is less than 1%!
High luminous efficiency of warm white light
Color temperature deviation is less than 30 degrees. The margin of error in the CIE chromaticity diagram is extremely small, maintaining color consistency.
Because of this design, the light source gives out areal light, as opposed to the light cones by competitors' LED point light sources.
The advantages are 1) less heat generated (warm to the touch) 2) longer lifetime 3) uniform light 4) esthetically appealing 5) maintaining constant light output (lumens) for a much longer duration of time
Here is the picture of the design

More info on the patent can be found here
No phosphor is needed to cover the LED chips. It is replaced by a film covering the LED chips to produce the desired light colors.

An Insider Scoop on Andromeda LED Lighting LLC
Andromeda LED Lighting only carries and sells top quality LED lighting products. Here are a few facts about our corporate business partner/collaborator/product supplier that we want you to know.
1. They were the first in the LED lighting business who invented LED light panels using COB technology in 2005. Their LED light sources produced 2-dimensional uniform surface light as opposed to the light from the point light sources by other competitors. They were the trend setter. There were quite a few imitations on the market after their pioneering invention.
2. They were the first to use COB technology and invent LED lighting panels that exceeded 100 lm/W in 2007. A record breaking accomplishment back then!
3. The owner of our corporate business partner was recruited by Jacky Wu 吳宗憲 (an A-list high profile celebrity in Taiwan) to become the CTO of Wu’s LED company, Alpha Photonitek corporation, back in 2008.
4. The owner of our corporate business partner was and is in charge of the research and development (R&D) of LED lighting product inventions. Accumulatively, it has resulted in 13 patents (some pending) in Taiwan, China, Japan, America, England, France, and Germany.
Andromeda LED Lighting is the sole authorized retailer in North America.

Light Bulb Types: A, B, BR, CA, and G
Now let’s discuss the various light bulb types commonly used in the United States. Light bulb type refers to the part above the light bulb base. When you go to Home Depot, Walmart, or Lowes and check out the light bulb sections, you will find them come with many different types. Below are the images of light bulbs & its dimensions (width and length):
A19 (standard size): 2 3⁄8 inches (6.0325 cm), 4 1⁄2 inches (11.43 cm)
A15 (appliance size): 1 7/8 inches (4.7625 cm), 3 7/8 inches (9.8425 cm)
BR30: 3 3/4 inches (9.525 cm), 5 3/8 inches (13.6525 cm)
B8 (torpedo, petit): 1 inch (2.54 cm), 3.125 inches (7.9375 cm)
B10 (Torpedo) : 1.25 inches (3.175), 3.875 inches (9.8425)
CA10: 25/32 inches (1.984375 cm), 3 3/8 inches (3.375 cm)
G16.5: 2 1/16 inches (4.7625 cm), 3 3/8 inches (3.375 cm)
G25: 3 1/8 inches (7.9375 cm), 4 3/8 inches (11.1125 cm)

Light Bulbs of Different Bases Used in the United States
Light bulbs come in many different bases and types, and they are different from country to country. Here we focus on the bases used most frequently in the United States. Most household light fixtures use light bulbs of candlelabra bases, intermediate bases, and/or medium bases.
The candlebra bases used most commonly in the United States are E10, E11, and E12, which are also used in Canada and Japan. The intermediate base E17 is used in the United State and Japan. E26 and E27 are medium bases and are used in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan. The tw0-digit number following the letter E indicates the diameter (in millimeters) of the cap of the light bulb. For example, an E26 light bulb indicates that the cap of the light bulb has a diameter of 26 millimeters.
Picture from this website
Since light bulbs come in different bases, it is important to know which base of the light bulb your light fixture houses before you rush to get any light bulb replacements. Nowadays, LED light bulbs are designed to fit the existing light fixtures. Replacing your money-wasting traditional light bulbs or environmentally unfriendly CFLs with the green, high-tech, energy-saving LED light bulbs is as easy as 1-2-3. Best of all, you save yourself tons of money and be a good global citizen saving the planet. That is a very sweet deal, I’d say.

Pictures from Smith Symposium at Penn State York
Here are a few pictures taken from the Smith Symposium at Penn State York on Nov. 10, 2012. My undergraduate research assistants, Richard George and Austin Crain, attended the symposium. Richard gave a presentation on our numerical simulation results of gravity-wave induced airglow variation in the OH, O2B1, and O1S emission in the Mesosphere and Lower Thermosphere (MLT) region. Richard did a great job in presenting the material. Austin won a mug from raffle drawing. Further info on the presenters from the Lehigh Valley campus can be found through the link: Two students present at Smith Symposium
Austin, myself, and Dr. Jackie McLaughlin went with Dr. Roger Egolf and Richard arrived from University Park. The ride was very pleasant but a bit exhaustive for me on our way home since I was engaged in intellectual discussion with Austin for almost 2+2 hrs ;-).
