Penn State Lehigh Valley has announced the promotion of three professors: Barbara Cantalupo, Ph.D., of Bethlehem, Douglas Hochstetler, Ph.D., of Breinigsville, and Tai-Yin Huang, Ph.D., of Lower Macungie.
Huang received promotion to full professor of physics. She is in her 13th year at the Penn State Lehigh Valley campus. Huang holds a Ph.D. (Physics) from University of Cincinnati, an M.S. (Physics) from University of Cincinnati, and a B.S. (Physics) from National Changhua University of Education in Taiwan. Huang's research interests include gravity waves dynamics, airglow chemistry, and energetics in the MLT region, Lightning-Induced Transient Emissions (LITEs) of airglow, sprites and elves, global warming and climate change, specializing in analytical approach, numerical simulation, and data analysis. Huang is an editorial board member of a few open access online journals and a book editor on Coupling of Thunderstorms and Lightning Discharges to Near-Earth Space. She has served as a reviewer for scientific journals and proposal reviewer for NSF programs. Her latest endeavors involve designing integrated energy solution for entrepreneurs and harvesting electrical energy released from lightning discharge. She owns Andromeda LED Lighting, LLC and several LED and other patents.
