PHYS 211 Course on Youtube

Last summer I took time to record PHYS 211 lectures & problem solving sessions. It was great fun talking to a camera that followed me ;-) in an empty classroom, well, most of the time.

I uploaded them to youtube and decided to make them public so that more people can benefit from this additional resource.

So here they are on my youtube channel Profhuang's Channel

Patent Granted

Professor of physics Tai-Yin Huang, Ph. D. has been granted a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The invention, "Energy Storage Device", is configured for a vehicle or a building. It can collect, store, and use the electrical energy released from lightning to provide power to a moving vehicle or for use in a building. Penn State Launchbox provided funding for the patent's issue fee. Details on the patent.

Lehigh Valley LaunchBox announces second round of grant recipients

We are pleased that Andromeda LED Lighting and the Integrated Energy Solutions for Entrepreneurs (IESE) have received funding from Penn State Lehigh Valley LaunchBox. More can be found here.

Lehigh Valley LaunchBox is a signature program of the Invent Penn State initiative and was created in collaboration with community and University entrepreneurship supporters.

Publication & Presentations

Professor of Physics, Tai-Yin Huang,Ph.D., published the paper titled " Simulations of Airglow Variations Induced by the CO2 Increase and Solar Cycle Variation from 1980-1991" in the Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics. The paper can be found here, valid through September 24, 2016

Huang also gave a presentation on the subject at the IAGA/ICMA/SCOSTEP 6th Workshop on Vertical Coupling in the Atmosphere-Ionosphere System in Taipei, Taiwan in July.

Dr. Tai-Yin Huang, professor of physics, gave a presentation on gravity waves-airglow interactions with different reference models with Yolian Amaro-Rivera and Dr. Julio Urbina, and co-presented a poster on airglow emissions modulated by a storm-generated gravity wave with Chien-Chung Chou, Dr. C. L. Kuo, and J. Dai at the 13th annual Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) meeting, Beijing, China, July 31 to Aug. 5, 2016. She also served as a co-convener of AS25 session on electrodynamic coupling.

Presentations at Penn State University Park

Dr. Tai-Yin Huang, professor of Physics, gave a presentation on gravity waves’ effects on airglow entitled "Numerical Simulations of Gravity Waves’ Effects on Airglow Emissions" and was a co-presenter of a poster on her models using different atmospheric reference models entitled "Comparison of gravity wave induced airglow variations using MSIS-90 and NRLMSISE-00 atmospheric density models" with her graduate student at the 2016 SPARC Gravity Wave Symposium. The symposium was hosted by the Meteorology Department of Penn State University from May 16-20, 2016.

Dr. Huang also gave a poster presentation entitled "A Concept Study of Designing an Eco-Smart Energy-Efficient House" with her students on their IESE research projects funded by Penn State Lehigh Valley LaunchBox at the Penn State Energy Days. It was an inaugural conference on all aspects of energy held at Penn State Law School on May 19-20, 2016.

Dr. Tai-Yin Huang was giving a briefing of her IESE projects to Penn State President, Dr. Eric Barron, at Penn State Energy Days.
